I thought this was lost forever but I found it hidden on my server. I think I may have hidden it on purpose.

Ran into this vid by Gregory Solenström on the oak nyc blog–it’s 3 months old but it’s dope. I’m a sucker (still) for this sort of animated typography, Akidenz Grotesk, clever motion tracking, and as I no doubt have mentioned, I’m moving to Brooklyn at the end of the month so I’ll leave it at that.

The iPad simulator in the SDK doesn’t come with a browser, so I whipped one up really quickly in xcode so I could see what a site would look like, in this case Facebook. Also a quick little look at what else comes stock with the simulator (which isn’t much).

Can’t wait to get my hands on a real iPad. 3g or not to 3g? That, my friends, is the question.

I finally got my encinema 35 dof adapter in the mail yesterday. I say “finally” like it took a long time, but I basically ordered it Monday and received it on Wednesday, so it wasn’t that long. It seemed like an eternity however, as I was so excited to get it and start toying around with it.

What is an “encinema 35 dof adapter”, you may ask? Well, in general, a “dof adapter” allows you to mount photographic lenses onto a video camera (in my case, a consumer-model Canon Vixia HF11), allowing the camera to capture images that look less like they came out of a video camera and more like they came out of a film camera.

Essentially, the adapter threads onto the front of the camera, then I attached a Canon 35mm prime lens (f/2.0) onto the front. The Canon lens projects an image onto a piece of ground glass, then the camcorder basically focuses onto the piece of glass, and records that image, which ends up being a little softer, and with a more pronounced depth-of-field that the photographic lens provides. Essentially, the camcorder is recording a projected image, sort of telecine-like.

This is the second test, kind of noisy racking, but it looks cool. Also, there’s no post-processing here, (vignetting, etc.)all straight out of the camera. More to come!

I have absolutely no use for this, but the fact that you can use your iPhone as control vinyl to power your Serato/Traktor/Torq/Deckadance setup just blows me away. Suck it, Blackberry!

Yes, I own a fixie which I like to ride a lot, but no, I don’t barspin it or any of that nonsense. (yes, I am considering getting a milwaukee bruiser s700, but that’s another story). This HILARIOUS video has been making the rounds the past few days but was taken off of vimeo–no worries, it’s up on youtube now and… um.. here.

Living in the concrete wasteland of NYC means that I never get to ride trails anymore. Ok, to be perfectly honest, the longest trails section I’ve ever ridden was probably a six-pack, and even then, that was probably a good 15 years ago. (Where is that Dirt Bike now, I wonder? Actually, come to think of it, it’s in Auckland)

In any case, I see videos like this one and I am at once insanely jealous and also bummed that I’ll probably never get to go to trails as nice as these, nor have the skills to negotiate them once I get there. STREEEEEET!

I don’t normally just post straight up bmx videos because I know people that read this are not necessarily bmx’ers, but I think most people can appreciate how fun this looks.
